Bill, I discarded the elephant butt, too. (I still have it. It's
available...cheap.) I've done the baggage floor with the 1/4"
panels. My kit came with two 4' X 8' X 1/4" sheets of honeycomb
material. One sheet of 1/4" was clearly marked for bulkheads,
footrests, arm rests, etc. I believe that it was +/- 45 ply. I
have very little of that material left, so I'm unsure what the bid
orientation was on that sheet.
The second 4' X 8' X 1/4" sheet was unmarked as to what should be
made out of it, but it does have the 1026B part number still
visible. I made my baggage floor from this second sheet. To my
dismay, as you found, there are no directions. So with a lot of
help from others I was creative. So far, it seems to be working,
but I'm not flying it yet, so results remain to be seen. I do have
a very large and usable baggage space.
I've attached a few low res photos. I also have a number of high
res build photos available, if you are interested.
I left my hydraulic pump where it was installed on the fast-build,
behind the FS-172 bulkhead. Bob Pastusek moved his forward. Moving
weight forward is always welcome in the IV-P. Especially if you
have an electric air conditioner. So moving the hydraulic pump
forward is a reasonable consideration.
