To all 235'ers who have the original top-surface hinged flaps.
Meant to post this earlier following my annual inspection but got distracted
by my recent hydro cylinder problem (since solved).
While inspecting the inboard flap pivot pins, the ones made from a 1/4 inch
bolt and that engage the hole in the phenolic plates just inside the
fuselage, I found that the jam-nut had come off and was lying on the floor.
The pin was still in the aileron weldment and still engaged in the phenolic
plate, but it was obviously not doing much to react the push-rod forces.
When I installed the pivot pin, I used a lock washer and blue Loctite. How
it came loose is beyond me but come loose, and even fall off, it did.
Suggest you all take a look at yours to be sure all's well in there. The
fact that the nut fell off, but the pin stayed in might be easy to miss on a
cursory look.
