Copper may be a problem because it is soft. It may stretch and loosen up on
you with all the vibration and temperature cycling that exists in an engine
compartment. How about brass bolts. They are stronger. You can get them
from you local Hardware store, or from McMaster Carr Supply Company. In my
opinion everyone building these kits should have a McMaster Carr Catalog.
It is a 3000 page catalog filled with all kinds of hardware, hand tools and

For my wires to the engine compartment, I am going to drill large holes
maybe 3/4" through the firewall and then cover that with a .050" stainless
steel plate that has a 1/2" hole drilled in it and is fitted with a rubber
grommet. Then I will run the wire through the rubber grommet. I am just
guessing on these hole sizes. First I have to get the wire and find out how
big it is, then find a grommet to fit that, then figure out how big to
actually drill the holes for the grommet. If you use this method, you just
run the wires all the way through, and you don't have to worry about a
connection which could loosen up. I am debating on whether to use the
stainless steel sheet metal and high temperature fiber cloth for my
firewall, or just use the high tech blanket material they are using for the
Lanciar IV''s.. Also, I think that I am going to put my battery in the
engine compartment instead of a header tank. I got my carbon fast build kit
with leading edge wing tanks installed. So, I have plenty of fuel.
