Most of the bolts in the control system should be tightly clamping
parts together. If tightly clamped, there is no free play that originates from
the undersized bolt shank. A few bolts are used as hinges and are not
tight. The hinge in the main gear overcenter link is one. The hinges for the
stick assembly under the seat pan are another. Anytime a bolt is used as a
hinge, the bearing surface should be considered. The lower attachment of the
nose strut is prone to wear due to the small bearing area between the
bolt and tabs.
Where a Heim ball joint is used, the bolt should be tight through the ball,
and should not contribute to any slack in the system.
