McMinnville,
Oregon (KMMV) Fly In
July
10, 2010
Less
than two weeks to go until the McMinnville, Oregon fly in! It looks like we’ll have a great
turnout, with 32 people confirmed and a few more possible. Here is the
itinerary:
1. Arrive at KMMV between 10:00 AM and noon
Saturday, July 10. Expect Runway 4
or 22. Cirrus Aviation, the FBO, is
northwest of the runway, near midfield.
Gas is next to the FBO and cheap (by NorCal standards) and the FBO has
agreed to give us a fly in discount.
Someone will direct you to fly in parking in front of the FBO.
2. We’ll have a buffet brunch ready for
your arrival. It will be in a large
room upstairs, near the gas pumps.
It has a good view of the runway so we can eat, talk, and watch the other
airplanes land. We’ll ask for a $6
contribution for the lunch. Be sure
to get your official fly in name tag, which you’ll need at the
museums.
3. At noon, we’ll shuttle people across the
highway to the Evergreen Aviation Museum.
I’ve been asked to request that you don’t walk across the highway because
of the traffic risk and the temptation to tromp through a farmer’s field to get
there. You can leave your bags in
the airplane or at the FBO.
4. At the museum, show your EAA membership
card, with the special sticker on the back, and you and a significant other get
in the museums free! Wear your
official fly in name tag and non-EAA members get in with a discount and everyone
gets a discount price at the IMAX theater.
The IMAX theater is not free for EAA members.
5. At 1:00 PM, meet at the aviation
museum’s admission counter and we’ll get a special guided tour of the aviation
museum and the space museum. We can
go inside the Spruce Goose and probably climb into the B-17. When I’ve been there, former B-17 pilots
talked about the B-17, P-38 pilots about the P-38, etc.
6. The museums close at 5:00 PM. Meet outside the main door of the
aviation museum and we’ll shuttle everyone back to the airport to pick up your
luggage. The FBO will stay open
until at least 6:00 PM. We’ll
shuttle you to the Red Lion hotel.
7. When everyone is checked in and hungry,
we’ll bring in pizza, soft drinks, beer, and dessert, which we’ll eat in the
small dining room next to the Red Lion Hotel’s front desk. We’ll ask for a contribution of $10 per
person for dinner. The hotel
doesn’t have a restaurant, but we can use the dining room where they serve
continental breakfasts.
8. Sunday morning enjoy the free
continental breakfast at the hotel and we’ll provide transportation back to the
airport. I know some pilots are
flying to Arlington for the Regional EAA Fly In:

9. For those who want to stay another day
or two, there are plenty of fun things to do, including limousine tours to the
Oregon coast, Mt. Hood, Mt. St. Helens (what’s left of it!), wineries, and fun
little shops. Robbie at the FBO can
tell you all about it and help you arrange transportation. Call Robbie at: (503) 472-0558 or
cirrus_aviation@verizon.net.
10. Last minute arrivals are welcome. Shoot me an email if you can, but no
problem if you don’t. pinetownd@volcano.net
See
you there!
