Hi, Guys!
Thanks for all the great feedback! Nice to
hear from you.
Maybe just a little background, along the lines of
what Don was talking about. Seems like there are at least a couple of
people going the route from FG to RG, me being one of them. I've had a
great time building and flying the FG, finished in Dec 2006. But, truth be
told, the RG is just a whole lot faster and more efficient. 200 mph in the
FG is fine, but it's hard to squeeze in full fuel and full payload and operate
from shorter runways, so it was just time to make the switch. Lessons from
the FG went right into the RG, and I was able to spend a lot of time making it
cleaner and a little lighter - built-in nav lights, internal antennas, EFIS
instead of steam gauges, simple rudder bars, stuff like that. So hopefully
I'll be able to fly formation without everybody asking for a little more
speed! The engine was another story, I've now bought 3 from the same
vendor, but this one took a bit of a pry-bar operation to get it completed -
can't say it wasn't interesting, but there's got to be easier ways.
Along the way with the FG, I retired and started
training/working as an A&P, changing from a nice boring software job
(strange when all the jobs get outsourced!) to changing Cessna parts and working
on Yak engines. So that's been interesting too, really opens a lot of
doors.
Thanks!
Andy

Subject: First Flight N550AW
Hi, Everybody,
First flight today for N550AW, out of Hollister
CA. The pilot was Pete Zaccagnino, who was able to get us off to a great
start. This airplane is L2K-112, it sat in the shipping crate for about
8 years, and finally started to see some daylight about 1 and 1/2 years
ago. It has an IO-550, an MT prop, panel designed by Aerotronics, and a
few home-grown features (nothing too traumatic, I hope).
Many thanks to all of you that helped and
contributed! Especially having a place to build it!
