Seems like there are at least a couple of people going the route = from FG to RG, me being one of them. I've had a great time building and = flying the FG, finished in Dec 2006. But, truth be told, the RG is just = a whole lot faster and more efficient. 200 mph in the FG is fine, but = it's hard to squeeze in full fuel and full payload and operate from = shorter runways, so it was just time to make the switch. Lessons from = the FG went right into the RG, and I was able to spend a lot of time = making it cleaner and a little lighter - built-in nav lights, internal = antennas, EFIS instead of steam gauges, simple rudder bars, stuff like = that. So hopefully I'll be able to fly formation without everybody = asking for a little more speed! The engine was another story, I've now = bought 3 from the same vendor, but this one took a bit of a pry-bar = operation to get it completed - can't say it wasn't interesting, but = there's got to be easier ways. Along the way with the FG, I retired and started training/working as an = A&P, changing from a nice boring software job (strange when all the jobs = get outsourced!) to changing Cessna parts and working on Yak engines. = So that's been interesting too, really opens a lot of doors.
