Aggressive insurance is a new company that really just got
established a year to year and a half ago. We are just now researching
going into contract with them. We don’t believe in starting with new
companies until they have proven themselves in the market over the last 3 years
there has been many aviation insurance markets show up and disappear. When this
happens It posses a large problem in the industry. We have people that
are very happy and upset when they get a quote for half the price they have
been paying. They are happy that it is a much better price, but they are upset
because they feel the other company has been charging them too much. Usually the
first year is not so bad until the bean counters get involved and see they need
more beans. So at renewal their reinsurance company wants out or forces them
into raising their rates. When this happens they usually go overboard and
double their rates instead of trying to slowly get them back into ball game
with the rest of the companies that knew what they were facing in the first
place. So now that the rates went sky high they usually lose all their renewal
business because there is a better option out there, when this happens the
insurance company folds because they have nothing left.
As Art said there are a lot of variables with the lancair
market, and everyone has seen them get tighter and tighter for underwriting. In
the aviation world there is no apples to apples comparison. If a company
comes and decides to blow the other company out of the water with super low
rates they are not going to fight to keep a book of business that has shown a
loss for them for sometime but they were wanting to provide a place to put
coverage if needed.. and yes that could be at a premium, but it is
coverage. If that company now sees there are other options they can say
ok well we no longer need to provide that service so they drop it all together
and now your down to one company that will write your coverage that is never a
good thing competition is key.
Lancairs can be a very profitable business for the insurance company
and a great aircraft for owner operators. The key to this happening is through continues
training, safety, quality builds, preventive and progressive maintenance. As we
were all taught when we were learning to fly, number 1 thing to do is fly the
airplane.
Remember every insurance company has its pro and cons but make
sure you tell your agent what your full plans are with the aircraft. sometimes
some insurance companies are easier to work with on things then the others, you
may pay a little more for it but it could be more beneficial in the end.

Aggressive Aviation?
I am insured through Regal Aviation Insurance. Specialty
Aviation Underwriters carries this policy. I have $285,000 hull with the
liability limit for $1,000,000/occurrence subject to $1000,000/passenger.
Medical pay of $3,000/person is included. The deductible is $250 for
not-in-motion and $2500 for in-motion losses. My premium is $5,195.
I am insuring a Lancair Legacy RG. Of course time in type as well
as total hours also comes into play. I have around 300 hours in type
and around 1800 hours total time, 300+ retractable. On my own I send
information regarding any training I have received throughout the year whether
this is on-line throught AOPA, safety courses at an FBO etc. as well as any
recurrent training. I am considering lowering my hull value next year
which will get me down in the $4000 premium range. Hope this helps
however, I have no experience with Agressive.

Subject: [LML] Anybody have any experience with insurnance through
Aggressive Aviation?
Renewal of my AIG Policy on my Legacy is approaching and the quote
I received was near $7,000 for a hull value of $230,000. I really dont
feel like having a part in the bail out of AIG, so asked my agent to look
elsewhere.
They got me a quote from Aggressive (www.aggressiveaviation.com.)
that is in the low $4,000 range and could go below that if I reduce my hull
value to $200,000.
My agent has no experience with Aggressive but did say that they
have an "A" rating.
Can anyone here relay any experiences or information on this
company?
