Arrrrrgghhhh..........
In the early days of operating my 320 I had to replace a
hydraulic pressure switch and when I undid the flared end fitting nut
on the tubing that connected it to tee from the pump I found the flare to
be holding on by its fingernails. Yes, it was a poor flare end that
was working its way out from under the capturing sleeve. It was one
of the first flares I had ever made in the kit building process.
Fortunately, it was also the worst as the rest have been flying for 14
years - that is not to say that they all meet the proper specs.
Thanks for the analysis. Gulp, all of my lines were cut with a tube
cutter. I think they all were filed and reamed but not filed as far
as the article recommends.
BTW, I finally got rid of all the tubing I flared before putting
on the sleeve and nut - These were the ones that just wouldn't work if they
were a half inch shorter.
