I was asked some time ago to put up some pictures of my MicroSun LED
landing/taxi light installation in the right engine cooling air intake
port on my IV-P. There are several attached. Higher resolution photos
are also available upon request. The mount is directly to the 100 Amp
stock Continental alternator via a phenolic block and a fabricated
aluminum bracket. This was the former location of an incandescent
fixture that I removed. If I had designed the fixture initially I
would probably have mounted it on the baffle. I cannot detect any
interference with cooling. Note the cooling perforation in the baffle
for #5 cylinder in IMG_7754X.jpg.
The MicroSun is much better than the incandescent light that was there
before. It is water tight. It's very good for taxi, but I rely on HID
lights on the wings for landing lights. (So far.) It is sort of a
modified flood rather than a narrow beam spot. There is a large heat
sink on the back of the MicroSun, but there is plenty of room for it in
the intake port.
Let me know if you have any questions.
