I've been glued to the 'puter for the past several days, have even managed
to get some updates done to the LML site in between bouts with the next
issue of the LNN and another website project I'm working on.  (One of these
days I'm actually going to build something on my LNC2!)  I'm planning on
getting quite a bit more done with the site over the weekend, in
particular, the beginnings of the Builder Assitance Center List, so stay
tuned.

Good news from the Builders' Bookstore... Here are two new items that we
picked up over the last few days. Both are of the interesting and fun
category, as oppossed to "hard core" building instructions. But that's OK.
Sooner or later, even the most dedicated builder is going to have to put
down his sanding block, even if just for a little while.  (It's ok if you
happen to look at some of the more technical selections during your visit,
it's a lot like that guys & tools thing and we understand completely. <g>)

Of the two, Wager With the Wind is listed as a featured item and in the
Sport Flying Stories section. Mountain Flying Bible is in the Sport Flying
Skills section. Both are absolutely exceptional books and highly
recommended. I wouldn't include these non-specific titles unless they were
that good. The reviews which follow were provided by Andy Gold, our
resident store manager.

WAGER WITH THE WIND   the Don Sheldon Story
$12.95

This is without any doubt the best flying story I have ever read. What this
man does with a Super Cub, ferrying climbers into the high glaciers of
Denali National Park will just blow you away. I don't know what else to
say. I have never heard of, or read of a more skilled pilot than Don
Sheldon. You'll read this entire book, cover to cover three times in three
days. Then when you come back a few weeks later to read it again, it will
be gone; lost somewhere among your circle of friends. ....Perhaps, you'd
better get two.

MOUNTAIN FLYING BIBLE
by Sparky Anderson       488 pages       $22.95

The folks in Leadville, CO (9952') give certificates to anyone who
successfully lands at their airport. (I always thought they should mail it
to you once you've successfully taken off.) I have two; one in my RV-6 and
another in an ultralight. Coronado Airport, in Albuquerque, NM at a meer
5200', is notorious for 2-3 fatal density altitude takeoff accidents each
year. Obviously there is something more to flying the high country than
most flat landers know.

The problem is, because of this concern, most pilots never get to enjoy
flying and visiting some of the most fantastic places on Earth. Mountain
Flying Bible is the first step towards solving that problem. In it, Sparky
Anderson will not just brief you, but thoroughly explain the conditions and
problems that may be encountered at high altitudes in close proximity to
the ground.

This book is indepth, complete, and highly illustrated. Whether your
mountain flying takes you through the 14,000' peaks of Colorado, or the
rolling hills of the Ozarks, one thing is for sure: It will make you a
better pilot. I've been flying the mountains for over 12 years. Even still,
on the first page, I learned something important.

"If you ain't a mountain pilot, you ain't a real pilot. Flying the
mountains requires knowledge and skill. The knowledge is imparted in this
book"
