The latest fastbuild kit (that I saw at Sun 'n Fun) had EXACTLY this mod.  I
too was going to use these bays (As I considered getting the max fuel
onboard in the wings) and was contemplating the issue of having pushrods
traversing a fuel tank!  Doug informed me that Vern has a standard glass
tube just for this application.  Go at it!
