I read somewhere (don't remember where) that Burt Rutan used silicone to
seal some gaps and the technique used was to smooth the goo down with an ice
cube before it set up. From what I remember, this puts a super smooth finish
on it and, by judiciously choosing the correct shape on the ice cube, it
"planes" the excess right off.
Now, if only I had heard of this before I put that paint-pulling 3-M plastic
tape over the joint on my Lancair! I'm definitely on for some paint touch-up
if ever I have to remove it - dang!
