Tom,

While your idea would make maintenance a little easier, I don't think it's
such a good idea structurally. I'm not a structural expert, but I think our
wings are semi-monocoque structures; i.e., the skin carries some of the
load. If you don't bond the top skin, the stub wing won't be as stiff. I
would not do it.
