Matt says: I would also recommend the ability to rate a builder assistance
center. I am sure there are those that are good, and I am equally sure
that there are those that are not good. Maybe a "rating" system that can
be done privately would be helpful too.
I'm no expert, but I'm afraid we might get Marv into legal trouble if we
asked him to assign ratings to businesses. Also it may discourage some
smaller businesses from signing up. However, if we let them rate
themselves, it would help us pick out the type of help we want. For
example, we could separate Sam the sander from Eric the electronics expert
and Mike the mechanic. I could really use a Sam the sander, a guy who could
just prep all the parts for me during the week while I am working overtime
to save up for my Turbo 360 engine. Then, on the weekends we could assemble
the parts together.
I say to just let anyone who wants to put there name on the list do it.
Then we as builders have the responsibility to go and check out their
facilities and question their knowledge. Also, there is nothing to stop us
from posting up our good or bad experiences. The same as we all do now. The
main thing I don't want to do is scare away the little guy who knows what
he is doing, has the tools, but doesn't have a nice big expensive shop. I
wouldn't want this guy to see that he may get a lower rating than some
bigger guy and consequently not want to sign himself up on our list.
Regards,
Ed Armstrong
