About 10 years ago, I had a voltage regulator failure that allowed the alternator output to go to max voltage - not sure but probably somewhere near 24+ volts - maybe more. The episode fried some of my equipment so, following the incident, I installed one of Bob Nuckoll's Over-voltage Crowbar modules. About the size of a wad of bubble gum and pops the alternator circuit breaker if it senses an over voltage. A recommended and inexpensive addition to any electrical system.
