The episode fried some of my equipment so, following the incident, I installed one of Bob Nuckoll's Over-voltage Crowbar modules. About the size of a wad of bubble gum and pops the alternator circuit breaker if it senses an over voltage. A recommended and inexpensive addition to any electrical system.
