Lynn,

Sounds like the best plan available short of Martin Baker.

Jeff,

I am not aware of any actual tests being done. However, Greg Cole worked closely with Andy Chiavetta and Darryl Greenamyer on the modifications that were done to the standard Legacy to turn it into a Super Legacy.

If the aircraft is out of control you just take what you can get. IF the airplane is under control my plan for bailing out is to enter a climb (making sure I am free from the seat belt radio connections etc) trim full nose down; when the airspeed is around 40 knots jettison the canopy; when the canopy is gone, release the stick and push away from the aircraft.

Hopefully I will remember the pull the ripcord and deploy the chute!  (:

Regards,

Lynn

Lynn,

Has the aft hinged canopy  been tested?  Some canopies of that type design will deform under aero loads stiking the occupant.

Skip,

You asked:

"Is it possible to bail out of a Legacy (or 360) with a forward hinged
canopy?"

During flight the largest force keeping the canopy from being opened is the
air pressure created by forward airspeed. What would happen to the air
pressure if the forward airspeed was reduced or actually zero?

In answer your original question, I suggest to you that is would be possible
at very low or zero airspeed. Just pull up into a steep climb, reduce the
airspeed and just before the plane stops going up, push the canopy up and
step over the side.

Or, perhaps you might use negative "G" to help exit the aircraft.

But of course my Legacy has an aft mounted canopy so all I have to do is
unlock it and I will be able to exit.

Regards,

Lynn
