Another GPS
anecdote:
Last spring in Phoenix,
when Obama was in town I was driving near PHX (Skyharbour) with my Garmin 496 on
the dash. Coincidentally I had my car radio on and happened to be getting live
coverage of Obama's departure when I noticed loss of GPS signal that lasted more
than the usual couple of seconds. I turned to the signal page on the 496
and had one bar indicating full, no other bars were showing. I monitored
this and exactly 20 minetes after Obama lifted off in Airforce One, the bars
(about 8) all came on suddenly like someone flipped a switch.
I called FAA, (not
Tracon) and was told to "call DOD". I also checked the TFR's and found
that it's end time was about 10 more minetes after the GPS signal came
back.

Northern Lower Mi. Based at a Joint civil military base. Today I flew across
to the west side of the state. Lost both 430 and 396 signals. All the way over
and most of the way back! Could not even use the VOR in the 430! Froze with a
big yellow caution sign! Called Garmin, first question they ask- Are you near
any military installations? Hmm! Anybody else have similar experiences? I
really don't think it is my system. Don Grabiel Sent from my
