Many years ago Tim Ong suggested I sell my yaw dampener, since it wasn't needed in the IV-P with the Continental engine.  I have a Sorcerer autopilot and found no difference with or without the yaw dampener.   My advice would be to sell it and save the weight.

I have a TruTrak Digiflight II VSGV autopilot in my IV-P (Continental power/winglets) and it flys the airplane very well with just pitch and roll. I’d second the votes of others; don’t waste the money or the weight on the yaw damper if you’re airplane is configured like mine. Please note, however, that the rudder position needs to be changed with power and speed changes…it’s not at all like a Cherokee.
