Good pictures. I did much the same and incorporated the
ramp on the left. I used carbon fiber cut out most of the
center to make it a frame for clear plastic to mount a
light behind, also rolled the right edge( 1/2" diameter)for
better flow of air.I put a roof over the opening in front of
#5 to direct the air #5 has always run cool. My # 6 was
the hottest running until I put the window in( no roof)
and the ramp in front of #6 now #6 runs 20 to 30 degrees
cooler. George Braly put on a seminar a few years back
specifically on cooling TSIO 550 engines in L IVs. That
seminar and the APS George,Walter Atkinson and John
Deakin put on are 2 of the best programs I have ever attended.
Another builder that shared some ideas and concepts that
where valuable to me in engine cooling was Jack McAllister.
Jack is an expert in fluid mechanics and said that air will act
like water in a flow condition( my interpretation of his words ).
With that concept in mind think about what would happen
if you direct a high pressure steam of water into the cooling
air intake in front of #5. Therefore the ramps with the rolled
edge(water/air doesn't like sharpe edges either) to direct
the air to where it will do the job you want it to do
