Are all the solder connections good? Also I may be mistaken but I thought the tip and the first ring on the plug were signal and the base or shaft of the plug was common. You can buy an adapter at radio shack to convert your stereo plug to a mono plug then use a mono jack for the intercom eliminating the question. Do you get other audio ie radio transmissions in both sides? If not the problem may be in you headset or its jack.
