Bryan,
I had the same issue. I removed the elevator, then cut a hole In the side of the elevator horn nearest the fuselage. It was asizeable hole, so that I could identify where the existing counterbalance weights stopped. I used the same lead strips from Lancair, cut them into short lengths, and inserted them into the horn so that they were in contact with the existing weights. A generous amount of flox was used to secure the weights; make sure that tthye are really secure for safety. The hole was filed by floxing in a piece of honeycomb. Finally I filled it in, sanded and painted it. It worked out well, but you do end up with a heavy elevator.
I would not recommend relying on the other elevator making up the difference if it is that much. Over time you could get wear, with a slight risk of flutter.

My Left Elevator has the weight in the counterbalance and because of the trim tab and servo Its out of balance. Im not sure how I can
balance it. Its gonna take more than 1 lb. If I attach both elevators together at the bellcrank I might be able to get the two balanced easier together as one unit. But as far as balancing the left one alone I'm not sure if I can do it. Right one is fine.
Any ideas, suggestions?
Bryan
