In my installation we only had to loosen the bolts holding the engine, not pull the engine. I have heard from a number of people about starter drive adapter problems - I think it is fairly common. In talking with Allen Barrett of Barrett Precision Engines about this problem, he said that not all starters are equal with respect to causing this problem. I would be interested in hearing from him what the data suggest about which are the best and worst starters with respect to the starter drive adapter. D.
