I’m gonna use “ours”, “yours”
and “mine” to mean all of the LML listers so don’t anyone
take offense to this note.
Very interesting supposition regarding “one
of only a few” still building. I thought there were thousands still
building. Where are those folks going for help … Lancair? Not getting
any? Airframe specific websites? If there aren’t thousands still building,
Lancair is in big trouble. BTW … how many of the Evolutions have been
sold/produced?
The LML has been the greatest for getting
ideas bounced around. I use it and yes am still building. It’s my hobby …
I have other airplanes to fly.
There have been times when folks use the
LML as a soapbox or worse an attack mechanism when they don’t agree with
someone on a given issue. Strut their behind at someone for all to see. Flip
someone off in prose. Those folks can be banned. I don’t think the LML is
a forum for attack or acerbic dialog. If you don’t agree with someone’s
comments, use private email to “communicate” those differences.
Everybody has different ideas about how
things should / could be done. Many times your / my idea is not the best, but
it’s ours! Throw it out there and sometimes learn why it isn’t the
best … or is a revolutionary idea that should be rewarded with
recognition … but don’t get defensive. Keep your cool and realize
other people’s ideas are as valid as yours/mine/ours. Unfortunately,
there are many today that don’t participate because of the likelihood of
being attacked … “flame suit on” and the like. I’d
really like to see that go away. You see … my first sentence tries to
keep flamethrowers placated. Too bad.

I may be confused about the original purpose and intent of LML
but then
again, I'm confused by many things of late.
As I recall, LML came into existence in order to be a sort
of clearinghouse
for builders to share building tips, techniques, problem solving,
etc... and
as an extension/supplement to factory technical support.
LML seems to me to be drifting wide of this mark and in danger
of losing its
relevance, to me anyway. Perhaps I'm one of only a few still
building and as
such, recent posts about FAA crud are of little importance to me.

[Good points, Angier.... I've always tried to keep a very light hand on the
LML, allowing the community to pretty much police itself. As a
more-or-less open venue, its focus tends to shift with the times. It was
a much different community back when I started the LML, one that was pretty
much dominated by builders. Over the years much of that building has resulted
in completed aircraft and a change of focus for those folks who have moved from
building to flying and maintaining. This doesn't mean that we still don't
have meaningful discussions about the former, just that they tend to be fewer
and further between. That being said, if you (and I mean that
collectively here) would prefer that I start filtering the more
"peripheral" discussions from the LML, I'd be happy to do so.
My concern is mostly about where to draw the line. Let me think about it
over the weekend, and if anyone else would like to chime in with suggestions or
solutions to perceived problems, please feel free to contact me offline at my
private email address, just so we don't clog the LML with a bunch of management
issues that are better left in the back room. Thanks to everyone for your
continued support and participation... without you the LML would be an empty
email box. <Marv> ]
