I've been a long time "lml listener" and last February I bought a Legacy RG project. I have looked at as many builder's logs as I can find and joined all the forums as well. There isn't a lot of builder chat anywhere that I can find. 

 

I enjoy the lml chatter which deals mostly with issues affecting flyers. One day I hope to be able to contribute to these discussions. However I am most interested now in building logistics.  The wonderful thing about lml's flying audience is that they've all been there and are a wealth of knowledge. Whenever a building question does get presented to the group there is good participation to help answer it. I many respects this is even better that a couple of builders commiserating over a problem.

 

I would like to see more participation among builders. I'd like to hear about their experiences, best practices and insights as well as recommendations to improve the workflow or the product.  It would be helpful to share builder logs or websites to build a stronger sense of community. I am just getting started and I'm in the process of building a website at www.LancairLegacyBuilder.com  

 

So for me, keep the flying chat going strong - the discussions are all relevant. But I'd encourage builders to speak out. I for one am interested in hearing more about this multi-year building endeavor carried out in garages and hangers all across the country.

I agree.  It seems like there isn't much happening on the LML as far build discussions.  You can still get answers to some but really seems like not much activity for, what I thought to be a fairly large amount of aircraft kits out there. 
Anyone know how many Lancair kits have been sold since the inception? 
Lancair builders and owners are either: 
1. Going extinct or: 
2. People who fly and build Lancairs don't care to have any web presence. Which will eventually lead Lancair to item 1 in this age..
Soon its going to be a world where experiment airplane is defined as an RV.
Thats my Wahhh wahhh wahh viewpoint of the day.

[Good points, Angier.... I've always tried to keep a very light hand on the LML, allowing the community to pretty much police itself.  As a more-or-less open venue, its focus tends to shift with the times.  It was a much different community back when I started the LML, one that was pretty much dominated by builders.  Over the years much of that building has resulted in completed aircraft and a change of focus for those folks who have moved from building to flying and maintaining.  This doesn't mean that we still don't have meaningful discussions about the former, just that they tend to be fewer and further between.  That being said, if you (and I mean that collectively here) would prefer that I start filtering the more "peripheral" discussions from the LML, I'd be happy to do so.  My concern is mostly about where to draw the line.  Let me think about it over the weekend, and if anyone else would like to chime in with suggestions or solutions to perceived problems, please feel free to contact me offline at my private email address, just so we don't clog the LML with a bunch of management issues that are better left in the back room.  Thanks to everyone for your continued support and participation... without you the LML would be an empty email box.  <Marv>   ]
