Angier,

At OSH yesterday I looked at the LED landing lights from Aero LEDs ( http://aeroleds.com ). I was very impressed and bought two for the IV. They are compact, bright, light, run cool, use very little power and last almost for ever. Nate Calvin owns the company. He was one of the founders of Sierra Flight Systems (now Chelton) and struck me as a very smart guy. He also offers an LED nav light/ LED strobe combo for the wingtips and a LED tail light /LED strobe for the rudder. Both of these fit the standard Whelen mounting patterns. I bought the tail light combo also.

Are there any decent 21st century alternatives to landing light kits offered from Lancair? They offer part #300-0024 with a plastic housing and GE bulb for a 320/360 for $49.00.
This is probably the least expensive solution and I've got plenty of  room in the lower left front cowl area.
How about the placement of 2" lights in the upper cowl air intakes?

Just trying to get a feel for alternatives.

Thanks,

Angier Ames
