Thanks to all who called or wrote to check on me. And thanks to
Leon for de-sensationalizing the news report. Leon also delivered my
passenger to his destination in Hillsboro the next morning, and helped with
the disassembly of N103MD THANK YOU!
The accident was just as Leon
described. I will take the time to write a more detailed account after I
have gotten caught up on the official reports.
Short version: If you
think you might have to go around, you've done enough thinking, GO
AROUND!
BTW, does anyone have an extra GM1 landing gear
weldment for a Lancair 235? This is not the same part as the gear leg on a
320/360. The one I picked up at Lancair does not fit
correctly.
Also, as a side note, the left main wheel ran into a rock
hard enough to fracture the gear leg, but the Tim Ong's TK-5 Debonger was
apparently undamaged. It will be torn down for inspection,
though.
The nose gear fork was torn from the end of the hydraulic
strut. All four bolts stripped their threads out of the nuts. The strut
also appears to be undamaged except for a small bend at the edge of the
flange.
