A 520 to 550 conversion at overhaul is certainly possible. But, the
only 520 that has the cross-flow injection is the TSIO-520-BE. A
conversion requires phase three permold, heavy cases and entails
installation of a new crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons and a sump
change for the Legacy installation. Core prices have gotten fairly high
due to lack of availability, and sometimes the quality is lacking. Once
the conversion is completed, you are going to spend the same amount of
money as you would in purchasing a factory reman engine with Lancair and
sending it to us for the Reno Edition mods. The conversion is most cost
effective with a non-VAR crankshaft, otherwise you can add an additional
$4500 for a core back to TCM.
