I had one of the elevator trim relays fail which allowed the trim to move in one direction when called for but would not move in the other direction. You can guess the eventual situation I found myself in after checking numerous times to see if the trim was working properly. I finally got to full elevator trim one way with no hopes of getting it back to neutral. It happened fairly close to the airport and I landed with a tired arm. Even though it takes a considerable force the flight is quite manageable with 2 hands. Once you are on final, go back to one hand and your brain just has your hand do what it takes to land properly.
Now that I have experienced it, I believe I would recognize what was happening and leave the minor out of trim situation alone and just live with it until I got on the ground.
Without recognizing what is happening this situation can be just as bad as runaway trim.
