Suggest you contact someone who has built a hangar at your airport. Experiences at other airports, counties and States may be of little value. I built a new 50 x 48 hangar in 1997. Due to the fact that the UBC is not enforced in my county, I could do what ever I wanted subject only to the general approval of the airport commission and city council. This lack of govermental regulation and inspection saved a lot of expense. I built a monolithic concrete floor/footing, wood frame metal sided and roofed, heated, and insulated building for about half the in town contract price. I was the general contractor on my hangar project, did the design and structural work, and subbed out all the labor except the electrical which I did myself. If they will even let you build as an owner builder (many counties consider a hangar a commercial structure), be sure to bid out at least 85% of the work and have all the required permits and approvals prior to ground break. I doubt if the FAA will be a problem unless you are within protected airport airspace but be prepared to deal with at least you airport commission, the city council, the building/zoning department, the state and local building inspectors and your insurance company. In my case and in my county a sugar and honey approach made the experience enjoyable.
