Another source for parts (sadly) might be the insurance companies. A
gear-up landing may have wrecked a fuselage but left the landing gear
intact.
AIG is currently the largest (only?) insurer for experimental aircraft. You
might ask them if they can steer you to a parts source.

I strongly doubt that builders had to drill those holes.
Looks like a manufacturing defect that slipped past Lancair quality control.
