My #2 VHF has had issues for quite a while.
The antenna has been the centre core Plus insulation
of some coax. Positioned IAW the Lancair position for the Loran antenna –
namely curving around the fuselage behind the canopy.
Testing with other antennae proved this antenna is the
problem.
I made a half wave dipole using RG400 coax lead-in to
the dipole splitter with the same principle of removing the outer shield
outside the splitter to form the antenna, and having each end finish in a 50
ohm dummy terminal block. All BNC connections.
Testing with the new antenna following along the
inside of the baggage compartment and the other section of the dipole following
the original antenna position proved successful.
For a permanent position, I am considering running the
RG400 coax down the tunnel to behind the rear bulkhead and curving the dipole
around the fuse at that point.
Any critique of that plan?
Any suggestions of attachment techniques and
materials?
Cheers
