Listers,
I observerved a situation on a friends' Legacy this past
weekend that I feel is important enough to pass along to fellow
Lancairians. It's a new Legacy with an IO-550 with about 80 hours on
it. When he removed the top cowl he noticed some blue fuel residue near
one of the injectors and investigated further. It turns out that the SS
line to that cylinder had been rubbing on the bottom of an intake runner and had
rubbed through the line. Fortunately he caught it early enough before it
became a major leak. This happens to be a "custom built" engine but this
could certainly happen to any injected engine, especially a Continental where
the lines tend to be hidden under intake runners. Let's be careful out
there and give a look at this next time you have the top cowl off.
