HOWEVER on the off chance you have missed all that I will offer some brief observations, all of which I have shared previously. 1. I have a Performance Engine TSIO-550 with dual Light Speed Engineering Plasma III electronic ignition systems built by Klaus and installed by Ron Monson. I have 17 mos and 181 hours on my LIV and the engine has run flawlessly since day one. 2. I have an 0-320 powered LongEZ, built by Ly-Con, with one LSE electronic ignition system and one Mag that has been flying in that configuration for about 15 years and 800 hours. The only engine problems related to ignition I have experienced have been two mag failures. 3. If you are interested in an all electric airplane the most important part of the design is the electric power production and distribution system. Bob Nuckolls and Bill Bandbridge are the go to guys for the right way to set up those systems. 4. I know of no incidence of Plasma III fratricide, but I do know of several incidences of all electronic ignition failures due to power distribution problems, most caused by poor design and installation practices. Lastly I would be very interested to examine the data that led you to opine: I am told that the cause of the accident was sudden engine stoppage and evidence points to failure of one of the redundant EI systems, the failure of which may have brought on the failure of the second. "I am told" is a rather weak observation, not even equal to an antidote so you might consider offering more information with specifics as you are requesting of us--otherwise this inquiry seem to be nothing more than another chapter in the tiresome blame the electronic ignition first mindset. paul, N94PT In a message dated 4/27/2008 1:33:30 P.M.
