I am looking to borrow a FreeFlight 1101 GPS from anyone that isn't using theirs right now. This will help me troubleshoot an intermittent problem I have had for some time now.
The 1101 feeds into my 2 screen Chelton. Since day 1, the "GPS failure" alarm has come up quite often in flight. It usually goes away pretty quickly. About 70 hours ago the GPS antenna was replaced, as we found out that the 26 dB gain antenna in the plane was the incorrect antenna, and so a 40 dB antenna was installed. The unit operated flawlessly for the next 50 hours, and I thought the problem was solved. The problem has come back. I have checked connections, replaced some connectors, and still the problem remains. Any help on this would be appreciated.
The second question I have is regarding the GPS in the Pinpoint GADAHRS. Would it be worthwhile to connect this GPS in the secondary position? If the WAAS FreeFlight GPS fails in flight, will the Chelton seamlessly go to the other GPS?
