Ralph would be the one to ask for sure, but his placement of batteries and hydraulic pump were driven by the desire to have absolutely nothing in the area behind the seats. His plan is to travel the world and he wants that area free for baggage. This is the joy of amateur built aircraft like ours, in that we can change things to fit our needs/desires. I am going with the behind the seat option for both batteries and hydraulic pump for CG reasons.
By the way, the "Pink Panther" is way cool.
