If the plugs are not firing then the plugs should be wet or at least show signs of fuel. Smell them, you can tell if fuel is present. I would check the boost pump and make sure you are getting "prime" fuel before you start cranking. You didn't say it started with a big blast of black smoke so I'm assuming it is not flooded. You may be depending only on the engine driven pump for fuel.
