This afternoon a IV-P lost power and had to make a
forced landing in a ravine short of Runway 36 on a visual approach to
French Valley, CA (F70). There were three souls on board, all survived
OK. From what I was told, the plane was a fairly new one based in Bend, OR
and was mostly red and white in color. I don't know who the owner/pilot
was. It had made multiple flights during the day taking different
passengers for rides. On this particular flight, a witness told me the
plane lost power on downwind or turning base and was unable to make it to the
runway.
I saw the wreckage when on approach to the same
runway a couple of hours after the crash and the fuselage was largely
intact, though the tail appeared to have broken ahead of the horizontal
stab. The plane is resting on a faily steep slope about halfway down a
ravine. How it ended up there with no one getting injured or worse is
miraculous.
