A lot of recent posts relate to FF installations, so there seem to be
quite a few builders at that point now. Unlike the airframe kit, there are a
few FF areas where a builder is "on his own" (i.e. construction of funnels
for filtered and non-filtered air intakes and for cooling air duct
connection to the oil cooler), as well as a bracket for firewall mounting of
the fuel pressure boost pump and a firewall-mounted cooling shroud for the
gascolator/fuel boost pump.
The funnels could be fabricated from fiberglass layups, but at
considerable effort (a form would have to be constructed and release agent
applied) and the quality would depend on the builder's fiberglass skills.
Those who are well-equipped could fabricate the required custom mounting
brackets.
However, as I reported over a year ago, the best approach is to have
these custom-fabricated from aluminum (or stainless steel sheet for the
firewall-mounted brackets and shroud) by someone who has the welding skills
and equipment. Locate a good sheet metal shop or machine shop in your area.
When a skilled welder or machinist learns of your project, he'll likely take
a real interest in being a part of it for not too many $$$. If he doesn't,
find someone who does.
You can sketch up the required shape and dimensions  and he'll produce a
nicely-crafted aluminum shape, including mounting flanges. Then, have it
powder-coated locally for a few $$$ more. A good machinist can make you a
nice stainless steel mounting bracket or cooling shroud from a cardboard
mock-up. Order the stainless sheet from Aircraft Spruce.
Not all of us build at the same level of workmanship, but slow down and
build yours to the absolute best of your ability.
