Having emptied the header tank in to the wings to remove it the first job was to re-fill. I decided to time the re-filling process and I thought other LML subscribers might like to compare my times. It took 4 minutes to transfer 1 US Gal. This seems a long time to me and means that at 7 gph the pumps are going to be on over half the time! Can anyone enlighten me further of the time it takes in their aircraft. For example, with air flow over the vents I presume the tanks are slightly pressurized - will this speed the process up? One other cautionary tale. In the re-assembly process to repair the damage caused by my nose leg failure I fitted the nuts/bolts which fix the nose leg drag link and hydraulic cylinder with the tails (nuts) facing to the left. This caused a conflict when the leg was retracted as the nuts and bolt-ends scraped the gas strut as they passed each other. The force of the hydraulic cylinder was sufficient to actually bend the gas strut, so be warned - clearances are so tight in the nose leg tunnel that bolts have to be correctly orientated. Luckily I had a spare gas strut but now I am out of spares -does anyone know what model of car the strut comes off so I can replace my spare? On the matter of Dynafocal mounts - I do not understand how Vern can say that they are the same. The geometry of the mounting points is very different.
