In my radiopanel there is = a King KX155 and a Garmin 423. The problem is that I have a good = transmitting on ground but not in the air. From beginning the antennas were placed in = the fin and in the aircraft body behind the baggage compartment. The = antennas were placed according to the building instructions. When I got help to measure the output power of the radios and the SWR (Standing wave ratio) = I saw the SWR value was too high. I thought the transmitting problem was a result of the high SWR value. To enhanced the value two dipolantennas = were placed outside under the belly of the aircraft. The output power was measured to 9 watt and the SWR value was 1 watt on both radios. It = could be regarded as normal values. When contacting a control tower about 3 = miles away from ground they red me five. After airborn I contacted the same = tower and they red me only two and sometimes one. I can still hear the traffic rather good but it is strange that the transmitting became so weak in = the air. It is the same for both radios and I have also changed headset and used the handmic with the same bad result. On ground I have also been transmitting to the tower 3 miles away when the engine is running at = about 2000 RPM with same good result. Now running out of ideas what to do.
