The intercoolers interfered with the top cowl. It was just a mistake. To fix the problem, they moved the intercoolers back 4 or 5 inches. This made it very difficult to work on the back of the engine. When they decided to do the fast build engine option, they decided to fix the problem by redesigning the cowl to clear the intercoolers in their stock location. I know this because I had an original cowl and an engine with stock intercoolers, and I had to modify the cowl to clear or fork out $2000 or so for a new cowl.
