Thanks guys for the replies.  I have replaced the alternator and still have the same problem.  I checked my connections in the voltage regulator and it has been replaced recently also.  The only "old" thing left in the system is the overvoltage, and I don't know of it's screwed up and kicking in when it's not supposed it.  It's a prestolite regulator of the types they use on Cessnas (I am assuming).  It's a PMA'd etc part.  I'll try not to fry anything.
