Subject: [LML] Re: Upgrading to
Legacy
Bryan,
I think about upgrading to a
Legacy. I also think about upgrading
to a
Javelin. It is all just a matter of
money.
The LNC2 is a very unique plane. I purchased my plane
from the builder about 10 years ago. I do all of my own maintenance in order
to keep the cost down and the quality up. No other aircraft can match the
LNC2's efficiency.
At least once per month, I fly from my home in
Detroit to my boat in Newport News. (The boat used to be in New Orleans.) This
trip is about 475 nm. I normally flight plan for 180 kts. This is about 65%
power and about 7.0 gal/hr. The plane flies beautifully up to 17,500 ft. I
average about 20 gal of fuel for the flight of about 2 hrs & 45
mins.
My plane cost $70,000 in parts and took 3,000 hrs to
build. I bought it for $70,000. Someday I will sell it for $70,000. My monthly
flights cost about 20 gal x 2 x $5.00 = $200.
Of course I would like to get there faster but what
would it cost? A Legacy would cost at least $200,000. Flying at my power
settings, I would estimate 220 kts. The fuel should cost 510 hp / 320 hp *
$200 = $320. And how much time would I save? The Legacy should do the trip in
2 hrs and 15 mins. That would be a savings of 1/2 hr.
If funds are available, I would opt for the Legacy
but NOTHING can beat the LNC2 for pure cross country efficiency.

Are there any members out there with a flying
320/360 thinking about upgrading to a Legacy?
