Dear Listers,
I have now finished with a Plexiglas firewall template I made
for my IV-P, and would be pleased to donate it to a good home. It was
used to plan and lay out the firewall forward components for my airplane—and
two others, so it’s not in pristine condition any more. Still…the
price is right if someone has a need.
I shaped a large piece of ¼” clear Plexiglas to be
a copy of my firewall --inside the flanges-- with attachment points, contacts, and
through-holes. I then bolted it to my engine mount (after bolting the
engine mount to the engine) and used the template to determine placement of additional
components, check clearances, and to make the wiring connections. I then carefully
removed all components/attachments from the Plexiglas and moved the “engine
assembly” to the real firewall and bolted it up. This made it MUCH easier
to determine clearances, see what you’re doing, and was a bit more
forgiving than “trial fitting” on the actual firewall.
This template is too big and heavy to ship economically, and would
probably be broken in the process, but if someone in the Washington DC could
use it, it’s FOB (free on base) at Potomac Airfield (VKX) just south of
town. Please contact me directly at rpastusek@htii.com
if you’re interested.
