I shouldn't have been so quick to post- I thought I was on to something. I had run the screw in by hand and it only went so far but when I put a wrench on it I discovered the hole had been bored out for the grip and the screw threads do run all the way through to the other side.
 So then- should the screw size be increased?  -Bill Wade
