Jeff asked:

toggle switch guards?
The glareshield is the factory one. I made the carbon fiber
rolled lip on the edge facing the pilot for three reasons:
1. I didn't feel comfortable with the glareshield's knife edge
so close to my face
2. It provides a place to hide instrument panel LED floodlights
3. I like the look of it
My Legacy is kit #257. I think the newer ones have a different shaped
instrument panel frame and a different glare shield. Like everyone
else, glareshield didn't fit and required major rework. As you can
see in the photo I previously posted, I also reworked the instrument panel
frame so that I could install the Cheltons side by side in front of me.
The red guarded toggle switch cover is from Aircraft Spruce.
The guards for the electronic ignition and magneto toggle switches are from
http://www.periheliondesign.com/switchguards.htm and
are NASA surplus from one of the X-plane programs.
Regarding the mag compass installed in my instrument panel, I've
been surprised at how little it moves when I turn electrical things on and
off. I wouldn't feel comfortable navigating across the Atlantic using that
as my only heading indicator, but for the type of flying I do, it
provides adequate accuracy. Installing it on top of the glareshield
obstructs vision and is still close to electrical devices, so I guess like so
many decisions about building an airplane, it's a tradeoff of one thing for
another.
