I think you are guys all making a mountain out
of a molehill...
I wish dead pilots could talk. There
are so many situations where we all know what the pilot should have done, or
thought but didn't. Would the dead pilot have recited the right
incantation on the ground just like the rest of us?
there's an interesting bit in Rich Stowell's new
book on Stall and Spin awareness that talks about the inverse relationship
between mental capacity and heart rate. It's an interesting
read. My internalization of that: Bottom line, at extreme high
stress you may not be able to think at all. you're relying on
responses you've trained in almost at the motor level. With training
you can load better stuff in to the motor level response and you may be able to
raise the level of sensory input that stops you from thinking. but
given a choice of two ways load my instrument panel a) means what is says b) may
mean what it says - do this other cross check first before reponding, I'll pick
(a).
