I wish dead pilots could talk. There are so many situations where we = all know what the pilot should have done, or thought but didn't. Would = the dead pilot have recited the right incantation on the ground just = like the rest of us? there's an interesting bit in Rich Stowell's new book on Stall and Spin = awareness that talks about the inverse relationship between mental = capacity and heart rate. It's an interesting read. My = internalization of that: Bottom line, at extreme high stress you may not = be able to think at all. you're relying on responses you've trained in = almost at the motor level. With training you can load better stuff in = to the motor level response and you may be able to raise the level of = sensory input that stops you from thinking. but given a choice of two = ways load my instrument panel a) means what is says b) may mean what it = says - do this other cross check first before reponding, I'll pick (a).
